Vegan Restaurants in San Francisco

Posted by Angelique Rivas-Day on Mon, Nov 12, 2012 @ 04:51 PM

As a vegan, one of the first things I looked into when I moved to San Francisco was where I could eat. I asked around, tried out a few restaurants, perused the open-air markets. After extensive and delicious research, I am very happy to give San Francisco the official Vegan Stamp of Approval! I'm Vegan

Here is a list of vegan restaurants in San Francisco that I recommend:

Although this blog is about vegan restaurants in San Francisco, the best food a vegan can eat is made in their own kitchen, so for anyone who is thinking about trying this kind diet, I would recommend finding a recipe and hitting the closest farmers market!

Farmer's Market

A really great place to start is the market outside of the Ferry building. They have a great collection of local food and you can score on organic veggies and fruits that are in season (It's pomegranate season people!!!)

But for those who would rather go out to experience a vegan culinary delight, here are some vegan restaurants in San Francisco I would recommend Dosa. The menu is extremely vegetarian friendly not to mention totally delicious and South Indian food is a really nice way to get your vegan toes wet-nothing will be wrapped in kale or doused in hemp seeds, I promise!

Here's a list of vegan restaurants in San Francisco that I have not try yet, but from from their online menu's and the reviews I've seen they look really promising. So, if you love them please let me know!

Golden Era- Everything is vegan and prepared from scratch. Their dishes are a fusion of Chinese, Indian, and Thai flavors. When I get the chance to try this restaurant I plan on getting the curry vermicelli soup. Perfect for a cold day!

Loving Hut- There are Loving Hut Restaurants all over San Francisco each with a unique menu, but all adhering to a vegans diet. I'll probably try the one in the Westfield mall. They have golden rolls filled with vegetables and tofu! these have been missing from diet for way to long, typically egg rolls are fried in animal fat, but these rolls are 100% vegan friendly.

Herbivore- Their online menu really intrigued me, mainly because they have dishes that we vegans can't usually have, like tacos! Their tacos are filled with soy protein, guacamole, pinto beans, tofucotta, lettuce, and chipolte salsa. yummm...

How to Hail a Cab in San Francisco

Posted by Nicole Redding on Wed, Nov 07, 2012 @ 03:39 PM

Although San Francisco is known as a walkable city, there are times when you don’t want to force your date, grandmother, or even your dog to walk up a street like Filbert on foot. Filbert Street

In situations such as this one, you should really hail a cab. So you whistle, you a place hand in the air, and you even position yourself slightly 'up-road' from all the other cab waiters and still no luck. Don't worry after you read this blog "How to hail a cab in San Francisco," your luck will change and you will never have to stand on a curb again!

Here are some easy steps on: How to Hail a Cab in San Francisco.

First things first download the app Cabulous. Cabulous is a free mobile app that lets you easily hail a taxi from any smartphone. They even have a state-of-the-art dispatch system that allows real-time tracking and communication between the passenger, driver and dispatch through the Cabulous dispatch platform. Ah,... technology!

CabulousOnce you are in the cab, here are some important things to note:

  1. You should have the address to your destination ready
  2. You should not worry about losing your personal items since with Cabulous you will never lose a forgotten item in a cab again!
  3. The San Francisco Taxi Commission sets the fares. San Francisco taxis are required to post the fare in clear sight of the passenger. Fares are charged by fifth miles with a flat rate charged for waiting. Drivers will provide receipts when requested by the passenger.

The current fares are:

    • First 1/5th of a mile: $3.10
    • Each additional 1/5th of a mile or fraction thereof: $0.45
    • Each minute of waiting: $0.45
    • Airport surcharge: $2.00
    • Luggage surcharge: None
    • Bridge tolls: Paid by passenger
    • Out of town (distances of 15 or more miles outside the city limits): 150% of the metered rate. A driver may collect the fare in advance for any out of town trip. They will not collect advance fares for trips to either the San Francisco Airport or the Oakland Airport.
    • If the passenger disputes the fare being charged by the driver, the driver must drive the passenger to the nearest police station at no additional cost.
    4. You should tip 15 to 20 percent of the total fare.

                         5. Get to your destination safely. cab

    SF Fashion: Fall Edition

Posted by Emily Detert on Mon, Nov 05, 2012 @ 04:32 PM

Packing for San Francisco should be unpacked into effortless STYLE. Because here, in SF, things just happen. Style drifts through the streets with ease and the day swirls through your mind with a chill in the sir, and a sun that warms the skin. Here are some ideas of what you can pack for San Francisco. SF Fashion: For her, and for him. The “For Her” items came from my closet, and can be mimicked easily, as they are staple items that can go from day to night.

Included are also some simple accessories that I can’t live without & I am sure you will crave! For the men, I came up with a casual vibe that is effortless and can be transformed into night. Remember that these are ideas that can be mixed and matched, so channel YOUR STYLE, BE ORIGINAL, & MAKE IT YOUR OWN— SF Fashion.

     SF Fashion for HER

    SF Fashion: FOR HER

    1. Cheetah Shirt by ZARA. An amazing staple for nightlife & daytime adventures!
    2. Basic charcoal grey V-Neck by All Saints. Less is more, so enjoy accessorizing this super-soft staple.
    3. Leather is SO IN this season. I can never get enough. Add an edgy feel with some gold studs.
    4. Always pack black lace! It speaks: classy, sexy, elegant, chic—in and out of the bedroom.
    5. GOLDEN CHARMS: Gold-rimmed aviators, and super thin & airy gold hoops.
    6. Paradise leggings by All Saints: recommended in tan if olive skinned (like me), or in Navy if fair skinned. You’ll be complimented on every corner you turn.
    7. Buffalo leather bag by ZARA, & a few of my favorite goodies, to keep you going throughout the day:

    -          Remember to bring a spacious shopping bag, as SF stores now charge 10 cents on bags, so save the do-re-mi and use your own!!

    -          The Green Superfood bar is an excellent on-the-go power snack. An all-natural power food with benefits for hair, skin, and body!

    -          Bach Flower Remedies are drops that come in all different natural essences with different functions. I recommend drops of “Heather“ for relief of nervous tension.

    -          Your Starbucks Card, as there is one or more on every block here, no joke! Sip on a fall favorite drink to keep you energized and cozy when the fog rolls in!

    8. Zipper Clutch by ZARA. Bring a nighttime clutch to explore the evening with free hands!

9.Black Snakeskin cowboy boots are perfect for day and night! Also the Prime choice for pumpkin-picking if you decide to take a ride over the bridge to the Sonoma or Napa countryside.

     SF Fashion for Him

    SF Fashion: FOR HIM

    1. Crisp White V-Neck by John Varvatos, an amazing shop to stop in if you’re on Union Square, that channels California Rock n’ Roll and Americana.
    2. Stone-washed Oxford shirt by J. Crew (J. Crizzle as I call it) – roll the sleeves up and hit the town!
    3.  Black-rimmed aviators – ideal if you’re a couple: HE wears the black, SHE wears the gold!
    4. Star USA jeans by John Varvatos … A dark and slightly distressed denim
    5. Barbour Terrence Jacket, The Steve McQueen Collection—black with a waxy coating, makes it city slick, is equipped with a vertical wallet pocket,  and an angled map pocket, great for traveling!
    6. Stars & stripes scarf by John Varvatos, in charcoal, a subtle salute to the patriotic season we are in.
    7. Pro Leather Oxford Lace-Up Converse--  the perfect pair of sneakers to walk the city streets in from morning to night.
    8. The standby black leather wallet! Slips right into the pocket and holds everything  a guy needs when he hits SF— ID, cash, CC, room key!
    9. Matte Black Onyx Bracelet with Jet Skull— rugged & SCULLTACULAR!
Now that's what I call SF Fashion!

How to Get World Series Ready

Posted by Nicole Redding on Wed, Oct 24, 2012 @ 03:22 PM

So what happens after you win Game 7, the rain stops and reality sets in?

First you celebrate. Then you get World Series ready. Lucky for the SF Giants, this is merely a GIANT case of deja vu. Remember 2010?

This blog will give you the ins and outs on: How to get World Series Ready.

     World Series 2012

    1. Get Tickets to the World Series in San Francisco.

This task is easier said than done. San Francisco Giants fans are willing to go to GIANT lengths to get their hands on World Series tickets. According to the Mercury News, "They're willing to go on hunger strikes, drive across the state or even paint your house to get into AT&T Park." Great idea! You could dye your beard like that guy. We aren't a 100% sure this would increase your chances but look how happy he looks!

*Didn’t get tickets to the World Series? Then skip to Steps 4 & 5 and then repeat!

    2. Find a Place to Stay in San Francisco.

We suggest staying at Hotel Union Square in the Dugout Suite. Our spacious corner suite features "Fear the Beard" window shades, a king size bed set up that you are sure to strike it rich in and a basket full of baseball treats with cracker jacks, peanuts, bubble gum & more.

This Suite is all things Orange & Black and is perfect for pre-game fun or to relax and keep the spirit going all night long! Plus transportation from Union Square to AT&T Park is a breeze with a special Metro Ballpark Service which operates on game days only, starting about 2 hours before games, at Embarcadero Station and continuing to the ballpark. These trains have their destination listed as "Mission Bay" or "Caltrain". Any train to Mission Bay, Caltrain or Sunnydale will take you to the ballpark.

    3. Get Geared Up

Tickets. Check! Warm bed. Check! But what to wear?

You aren't World Series ready unless you are dressed to win. Forgot your SF Giants gear at home? Don't worry, Personality Hotels got your back, literally! Get a "Giant Personality" T-shirt from the front desk for $25.

Or if post-season gear is more your thing, check out the Dugout Store. To avoid crowds, we suggest going to the Giants Dugout store at Union Square on 337 Geary Street (next to Lefty O'Doul's).

    4. To Pre-Game or Not to Pre-Game?

Pre-gaming can be defined as consuming alcohol in smaller amounts before a bigger drinking event with the intention of easing yourself into a night to remember or to forget depending on your drink of choice. This is where we strongly recommend that you refer to step 2 in this "How to Get World Series Ready" blog. Now you're game ready!

     5. To the After Party and Beyond!

After the game, you'll want to keep the party going and everybody knows that SF Giants fans know how to party! But just in case you are a little rusty or you're new to the city, we have you covered. Want to feel like the MVP of your friends, then choose Tres Agaves, though we must warn you that they have every tequila option known to man and side effects may include table dancing, and an all night long desire to sing, "Don't Stop Believing" karaoke style!

Now that's How to Get World Series Ready!

Spending the night at the Hotel Diva

Posted by Nicole Redding on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 @ 08:44 AM

Need to getaway? Spending the night at the Hotel Diva can put things into perspective.

Personality Hotels means it when we say, "We do everything but dream for you!" We leave the dreaming up to you. We can only imagine what so many Divas dream about as they glazed out of our hotel windows.

Whether they're drawn to the architecture of the Curran theater or they're imaging themselves on the main stage, we guarantee if you look up at the Hotel Diva at any given moment, you'll find a diva or two staring right back at you.

    A.C.T theater

As soon as a Diva checks in to Hotel Diva, she strolls past the one and only Diva Sidewalk of Fame. This is how she knows, she has arrived. She only has to look down to see the Divas and Divos that came before her, that dared to dream big.

It's no wonder why Yvonne, our CEO/President was inspired to create her dream hotel--sexy custom shades and stainless steel sculpted headboards setting the stage in your room, for your own Diva experience.

The only thing left for you to do is dream!

    The Pets behind Personality Hotels

Finding pet friendly hotels can be difficult!

That's why Personality Hotels doesn't have 1 but 4 pet friendly hotels to choose from. It's true, we have a hotel to fit any pets' personality. Whether your pet's personality is GRAND like the Kensington Park Hotel, AUTHENTIC like the Hotel Union Square, SEXY like the Hotel Diva or TIMELESS like the Steinhart Hotel, we have a hotel for you and your best friend.

Now that you found a couple of pet friendly hotels, where you and your pet can rest your head don't forget to pack the essentials.

    Personality Hotels' Pet travel checklist

Listed below is a list of items you'll want to make sure to pack:

Identification and Photos: Think about it, you wouldn't let your best friend leave without their ID when traveling, your pet's information is equally as important. Pack your pet's most recently taken photo with their license number written down on the back. Also remember to pack your pet's veterinarian's contact information just in case of an emergency.

Pet supplies: While in San Francisco, you will most likely spend some time away from your pet friendly hotel, so be prepared by having anything your pet could dream of, like a favorite pillow or blanket just in case you decide you want to spend the day lounging at Dolores Park.

Food and Beverages: We recommend you pack a good amount of dry food. Don't forget the favorite water bowl and if your pet eats canned food, bring along a can opener.

Collars and leashes: Have you seen those iconic San Francisco hills? No doubt you and your pet will be walking around a lot, so bring along their leash. Pack an extra one, just in case there is a chance of it breaking.

Forgot something? Or just need an excuse to buy something new... here is a list of our favorite pet friendly boutiques and restaurants:
