San Francisco's Divine Gift

Posted by Angelique Rivas-Day on Wed, Jan 02, 2013 @ 03:08 PM

Sometimes I wonder if chocolate has magical capabilities, if it is a potion that can cure all ills, a tonic to heal all broken hearts, or a remedy to make the bitter days a little sweeter. Twenty five hundred years ago in the Mayan civilization, chocolate was thought to be a divine gift; isn’t that a lovely sentiment? I dare say that chocolate is not treated with half the respect as it once was!

When first moving to San Francisco I searched in vain for a place where I could indulge my chocolate fantasies while staying within the limits of my vegan diet. For those out there who scoff at the thought of vegan confections, let me tell you, it can be done and done well. And when it is, it is positively delightful! After much research (which left me in a chocolate coma) I have been able to put together my favorite vegan treats in San Francisco.

On days when one would like something chocolatey and fluffy I would recommend Pebbles Donuts, located in the San Francisco Ferry Building. These are a must for all donut lovers, the batter is made fresh daily and has the added ingredient of care for the body and planet. My favorite is the Mexican hot chocolate donut, each bite makes me positively weak at the knees, soft and delicious and did I mention 100% organic? These donuts will be appreciated by any true chocolate lover whether they are a vegan not. The more I searched in San Francisco the more I was charmed to find vegan chocolatey treasures around every corner. Just a few doors down from the Kensington Park Hotel in Union Square, is a lovely café called La Taza. I went in expecting to get a latte and to my surprise discovered that they made vegan cookies! I chose a chocolate cookie with white chocolate chips, it is quite possible that that was the highlight of my day, the cookie was chewy and rich something that is difficult to achieve in vegan baked goods. And on the occasion that one is looking for a more upscale vegan experience the place to go would be Millennium, an entirely vegan restaurant located on Geary Street. You can go for the entrée but make sure you stay for dessert! From their bourbon and black salt molten chocolate cake to their chocolate almond midnight, the desserts will remind you of the first time you fell in love with chocolate and make you forget that what you are eating is vegan.

San Francisco is home to my new favorite chocolate treats that have confirmed that chocolate truly is a divine gift!

Vegan Restaurants in San Francisco

Posted by Angelique Rivas-Day on Mon, Nov 12, 2012 @ 04:51 PM

As a vegan, one of the first things I looked into when I moved to San Francisco was where I could eat. I asked around, tried out a few restaurants, perused the open-air markets. After extensive and delicious research, I am very happy to give San Francisco the official Vegan Stamp of Approval! I'm Vegan

Here is a list of vegan restaurants in San Francisco that I recommend:

Although this blog is about vegan restaurants in San Francisco, the best food a vegan can eat is made in their own kitchen, so for anyone who is thinking about trying this kind diet, I would recommend finding a recipe and hitting the closest farmers market!

Farmer's Market

A really great place to start is the market outside of the Ferry building. They have a great collection of local food and you can score on organic veggies and fruits that are in season (It's pomegranate season people!!!)

But for those who would rather go out to experience a vegan culinary delight, here are some vegan restaurants in San Francisco I would recommend Dosa. The menu is extremely vegetarian friendly not to mention totally delicious and South Indian food is a really nice way to get your vegan toes wet-nothing will be wrapped in kale or doused in hemp seeds, I promise!

Here's a list of vegan restaurants in San Francisco that I have not try yet, but from from their online menu's and the reviews I've seen they look really promising. So, if you love them please let me know!

Golden Era- Everything is vegan and prepared from scratch. Their dishes are a fusion of Chinese, Indian, and Thai flavors. When I get the chance to try this restaurant I plan on getting the curry vermicelli soup. Perfect for a cold day!

Loving Hut- There are Loving Hut Restaurants all over San Francisco each with a unique menu, but all adhering to a vegans diet. I'll probably try the one in the Westfield mall. They have golden rolls filled with vegetables and tofu! these have been missing from diet for way to long, typically egg rolls are fried in animal fat, but these rolls are 100% vegan friendly.

Herbivore- Their online menu really intrigued me, mainly because they have dishes that we vegans can't usually have, like tacos! Their tacos are filled with soy protein, guacamole, pinto beans, tofucotta, lettuce, and chipolte salsa. yummm...

San Francisco Fashion: Timeless style

Posted by Angelique Rivas-Day on Wed, Jul 25, 2012 @ 02:21 PM

San Francisco Fashion, is a fusion of both timeless style and the latest trends. The opening scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s paints the perfect image of timeless style. Audrey Hepburn pulls up to Tiffany’s and steps out of the taxi, a croissant and coffee in hand, as the enchanting melody of Moon River softly plays in the background. The camera slowly pans out to reveal Audrey in the timeless little black dress which is now viewed as the milestone of fashion of the twentieth century. As the icing on the cake, Ms. Hepburn is wearing the iconic black Oliver Goldsmith sunglasses and is ornamented with pearls and a simple tiara.

I would just like to know if there is a little girl out there who has not, at one point or another, acted out this scene in their mother's pearls and high heels? Timeless fashion is a thread that weaves through the closets of women around the world, styles that were first drawn out by legends such as Coco Chanel and Christian DiorTimeless San Francisco fashion

The key to timeless style is simplicity and confidence of the fabulous women who live their lives in it. Though one could argue that because of its longevity timeless style deserves far more esteem then the trends that come and go, it is these trends that define an era and make the world remember their generation's vision. For who does not want to be the trendy woman, walking down Powell street, with the over sized blazer, studded pumps and the chunky jewelry that all together screams “I’m fearless”?Trendy Fashion in San Francisco

San Francisco fashion is a daring celebration of the two, it is a city bustling with women and men that walk the streets as fiercly as if it were a cat walk. In today's world, we can be both fearless and classic, that same chic girl walking down Powell Street could be walking through the doors of the classic Kensington Park Hotel. Proving that we do not have to choose! Give me a leather jacket but let me add my vintage pearls.

That is San Francisco Fashion!
